By car

The main routes into the city are New York highways 13, 79, 89, and 96. Interstate 86 intersects
NY State Rt. 13 in Elmira, about 30 minutes southwest of Ithaca. Interstate 81 connects with NY
State Rt. 79 half an hour from Ithaca at Whitney Point, and with NY State Rt. 13 about 35
minutes from Ithaca in Cortland.

Getting to Ithaca

By plane

The nearest airport is Ithaca Tompkins County Regional Airport which is situated 4 miles away
from the Cornell University Campus. The airport has daily flights on American Airlines to and
from Philadelphia and Charlotte, North Carolina, on Delta Air Lines to and from Detroit, and on
United Airlines to and from Washington DC.


The Syracuse Hancock International Airport in Syracuse, New York is the other nearest airport
offering more options, including flights from three airports near New York City: LaGuardia, JF
Kennedy, and Newark. Ithaca is 60 miles/100 km (90-minute drive) from Syracuse.

 

Ground transportation can be arranged through a local service, Collegetown Cab, Uber/Lyft service, or by driving a rental car.

Taxis and local TCAT buses are available to bring you up to campus from the airport.

By bus

Cornell Campus-to-Campus, OurBus, Shortline Bus / Coach USA , Trailways, and Greyhound
operate buses into Ithaca from a variety of cities, including daily service to/from NYC.
